Why Update Now?

The 2026 Canadian National Acne Guidelines: A Vital Update for Enhanced Patient Care

The New Canadian Acne Guidelines will mark a significant milestone for healthcare providers across Canada. With the last update in 2016, it comes at a pivotal time, ensuring that practitioners are well-equipped with the most current knowledge and strategies in acne management.

  • These guidelines will emphasize a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery. To reflect the changing nature of care delivery by healthcare providers, including expanding scopes of practice, a collaborative approach involving dermatologists, primary care providers (GPs, pharmacists, NPs, RNs), and other healthcare experts, these guidelines ensure that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses all aspects of their wellbeing.

  • A special focus on managing patients with Skin of Colour addresses a long-standing gap in dermatology, recognizing the unique challenges and treatment responses in this demographic

  • The guidelines will address introduce new treatment modalities, reflecting the advancements in dermatological care

By integrating these new practices and perspectives, the 2026 Acne Guidelines will set a new standard in acne treatment and patient care, helping patients to achieve clear skin and improved quality of life. The new Acne Guidelines will be more than just a document; they will be a roadmap to better, more inclusive, and effective dermatological care .
